I've read from time to time on Flyertalk MR members being allowed to adjust their promotion based on their projected travel plans. I've never requested a change until now. I'm always automatically enrolled in the 20 night promotion with the bonus for an additional 5 nights. The last two promotions before the fall Megabonus I struggled to get that 20th night just under the wire. I fell short by 5 nights (15) with the fall Megabonus and therefore will come up empty with bonus points, even though I stayed enough nights this past year to maintain PP status. I accept the fact that I didn't make it. But I've been automatically enrolled in the spring Megabonus at with the same bonus. I'm not one to inflate my company's costs with needless stays and we are implementing initiatives to reduce travel costs.
So being proactive, I sent an e-mail to Marriott Rewards requesting an alternate promotion, pointing out the fact that I couldn't reach the goal with the last promotion. Their response:
"Our records indicate you are enrolled in the 2012 Spring MegaBonus Promotion that begins February 1, 2012 and ends April 30, 2012. You have been selected to receive a bonus of 35,000 Marriott Rewards points when you stay a total of 20 paid nights. You can receive an additional bonus of 15,000 Marriott Rewards points, up to a maximum bonus of 50,000 points, when you stay a total of 25 paid nights. ...Please accept my apologies that we are unable to enroll you in an alternate 2012 Spring MegaBonus Promotion offer. It appears you are currently a Platinum Premier Elite member. Thank you for your valued loyalty and continued patronage. (Bold emphasis added) Thank you for choosing Marriott.
Sincerely,

Needless to say, my flakes were frosted when I read this response.
