I've only had a window seat UD, and found it worthwile to have not only the storage space, but the shelf space that it can be used for. Makes it easy to hold the laptop for the restroom breaks. One other tip, I carry a small LED flashlight, as its hard to see in the side bins at night.
Much worse. A full SunChaser squeezes into a crj200 bin fine, but won't in the 747 upper deck.
That all said, the upper deck is worth the hassle because no one from steerage invades it, unlike the C cabin on the main deck.
