In the UK, 1,000 AmEx points = 1,000 Avios (=BA Miles). Of course, this is still less good than in the US as normal earning rates are 1:$1 and 1:£1, so US cards earn roughly 50% more on spend.

Check other countries in 'Europe' and you'll probably find other differences, just as there are differences between AmEx benefits in the US and the UK.
