I'm not sure where this thread belongs, sorry if this is the wrong place.

I want to take a trip where I fly one direction then drive back. Mostly, car rentals now seem to surcharge by the day for one-way rentals. So if you can rent for (say) $35 a day "local" - the one-way charge might be $110 a day.

If you are just taking a quick trip that's not bad, but if you are taking the trip slowly and sightseeing it can get expensive.

Are there any cheaper ways to do it? Any companies that have "regular" rates plus a single drop charge? What I want to do is rent in Texas, then drive back to North Carolina.

I know I could rent in NC and drive to Texas, and that's not out of the question. It's a long trip though.
