But signing up for e-mails is not a purchase. Since the bonus if for a first purchase, and there is certainly no mention anywhere that I can see of this as a disqualifier, and no similarity in name to be aware of, it's certainly a sleazy reason to not award miles. How is someone acting in good faith supposed to be aware of and avoid being caught by something like that.

Jeeezzzz...I made an honest first purchase from them, late in the game after the qualification had gone up to $50. (I actually bought wine for $100; they offered a good shipping price and it was a fair deal.) Now I have to wonder if somewhere some e-mail I signed up could result in disqualification from a substantial block of miles? That should be in the rules. I'm with Paiteaw.
