SQ's standards have declined significantly and they seem to have no clue how to go about fixing their lousy website, iPhone App, Social Media via Facebook and Twitter.
Not to mention that their aircrafts are looking dirtier, older and the seats in J class longhaul are showing signs of age and dirt marks. The meal service is sub standard and they haven't revised their Book the Cook Menu options - it is becoming very boring to eat the same old BTC options.
When will SQ learn! Seriously.
Singapore airlines has new fleet coming in just like other airlines. Planes get worn down on even the best carriers, till replacements come in or they get new upgrades and retrofits.
I wish I was so lucky to fly on Singapore Airlines. Its one of the best out there.
Were the planes you were on those 747-400's scheduled to be retired this year? They have 4 of them which obviously would be the most worn out and oldest aircraft they have which they are retiring.
The other fleet is quite modern and should be in good shape. In fact those A380's they are now using are pretty modern if not brand new on the JFK to SIN route via Frankfurt.
All airlines will experience wear on older jets. Unfortunately when you are phasing out a plane, you can't help it. You either have to refurbish the cabins or replacement the fleet and Singapore does indeed keep their Airline to first rate standards. From what I have seen, the standards are still set immaculately high and complaints seem to come from passengers who quite frankly don't know what they are doing and haven't read policies and terms and conditions in advance which are set out explicitly.
Singapore as a nation just like their airline and management teams are first rate up to the worlds best standards.
Obviously no one is perfect and you haven't even mentioned what was in the complaint. I just commented on some other posters comment on worn down airplanes. Airplanes at the end of the lifecycle especially for economy class on various airlines are going to have worn down seats and customers will notice these. Even during mid usage you could have some seats fail which are replaced.
