The freezing cold is to incentivise the traveller into moving quickly (and keeping out of my way). Likewise, the pictures and descriptions of celestial overseas Hiltons should hurry the tardy traveller into rushing toward Departures. That walkway is a masterpiece of human engineering.
I'd be tempted to steal one of the golf carts parked outside and drive that through the walkway
