We were in NYC during the UN circus in 2011. It wasn't a big deal. Our drive from the airport took a bit longer, and we noticed security vans an personnel around some of the luxury hotels as we walked.

Yes - sometimes these things are overblown. We were in Berlin at the RC (2006 or so?) when the G5-10-15-20-whatever
was in town. No problem at all. A heck of a lot better than the traffic on Miami Beach during the Miami Beach boat show!
FWIW - we happened to be in Manhattan on 9/11 (day after our 30th anniversary) - and I reckon I will never see the kind of security in a luxury hotel that I saw then. Robyn
