Which is why they will say they are going to scanners and two dimensional bar code readers, as once you change the name, the boarding pass will no longer be valid. The name printed on the pass will not match the name in the bar code which won't match the ID.

I wouldn't doubt the TSA is spreading this information as a way to get backing for the new systems.
