At YVR all the international arrivals are funnelled onto the same concourse (including USA) I've never done this but there is a connecting gate on the secure arrivals side of the airport for USA departures before Canada Immigration. There is not a lot of connecting traffic to the USA here so I don't anticipate a large line. I've only ever seen 1-2 people at this gate - presumably it leads directly to USA Pre-Clearance for CBP (and if you have bags checked through)
