The Central Square T-stop is actually closer, in terms of walking distance. It's also simpler.

You exit at Mass. Ave. and head toward the river. When you hit the Y-split of Main Street, go to the left. Royal East is on the right side of the street.

It's a straight shot down Main St. from Kendall, but a longer walk.
