I ended up staying here for two nights over New Year's. I liked the location of the property for a stay in Naples. The staff was generally friendly and helpful. No internet or breakfast included with an award stay, and they gave us a room facing the alley, which was a little disappointing considering two sides of the hotel face the water. But that is what I have come to expect from SPG on award stays - the room with the least view and not including breakfast, even if every other paid rate at the hotel does. The room itself was comfortable.
Did have an issue on check-out. When I arrived the front desk staff had told me parking would be 26 euro per day. I confirmed this amount two days later at check-out to make sure I had enough cash - they use a 3rd party garage and you have to pay them directly. When I got the bill, it was 10 euro higher -- 62 euro (a rate of 31 euro per day). I had the garage guy go inside and after an exchange with the front desk staff, they said I had to pay the higher rate because I had a van.
At a "Luxury Collection" property I would have expected the front desk staff to either have their vendor honor the quoted rate or for them to whip out a 10 euro bill from petty cash ad make up the difference - even if the 31 euro was the right rate for a van. They saw the car (van) when I arrived -- they took care of parking it! Contacted SPG who contacted the hotel manager -- said he spoke with the employees and if they had known it was a van they would have quoted the higher "proper" rate. Makes me even more disappointed - they most certainly saw the van when I checked in. I had a discussion with the woman who checked us in about making sure the garage had enough ceiling clearance to park it. We're only talking $12 and change - but that last experience left a bad taste on an otherwise good stay.
The hotel manager did offer me a "special rate" next time I am in Naples. I guess that is something, though it could be decade before I return to that part of Italy. SPG customer service considers is "resolved." I parked the same car at 5 other hotels and probably a dozen garages in Italy. Never had to pay more for the mini-Van as it fit in regular spots (barely, but it did fit).
Overall a shame because I had great stays at the St. Regis Rome and Sheraton Catania on this stay. SportsTech's description of this property of not, perhaps, a true 5 star property, but a solid 4 star at this point, is my impression as well.
