That ratio sounds about right. Assuming the hotel cost at least $500 a night (about the cut-off that I would use award for), it is about 2:1 ratio for earning/using - which is not bad at all.
I have not done the math for other chains but I would be surprised if it would come much better than that.
The analysis does not take into account status benefits that also worth quite a lot of money, but much more difficult to quantify as it will vary from place to place.
