There are probably not many Germans around here, so I didn't mention in the title that my question is about the German DKB HHonors card, but it's probably the same conditions in other countries, I suppose.
I've booked a long tour through the Hiltons of the US beginning in April 2012 and now I'm anxious that I won't get free breakfast and free internet, if I were downgraded to Silver because of their usual requalification cycle. Got Gold through the credit card in July 2011 and unfortunately had only 15 stays counting toward tier status last year, which didn't yield enough base points. Called reservations and they said, I would have to requalify in April, BUT: I didn't mention (and they didn't know) that I got my status through credit card, because I was too ashamed of that :-)
Can't comment specifically on the German aspect, but status always expires on the 1st. They don't have rolling years so I would imagine the same rules apply to a German card.
