I can almost guarantee you it was not from the flight. It typically takes nearly 3-4 days for food poisoning to impact your body. Lots of people think it is a matter of hours, but it is not. So I would rewind the tape and think about the days in LHR leading up to the return flight to where you and the BF ate together. Airline food is generally quite safe. Stringent quality controls, sterile factory kitchens all pre-cooked and re-heated to a very high temperature.
Right.... All other place that prepare and serve food are subject to the same ruless. Even medicine is contaminated at times. So where do people get food poisoning? ...at home with garden grown and prepared food?? And where do you get the darn 3-4 days for bacteria to act??
