Not just UA, SQ, KL do that as well.
I think the window seat at the exit row is too narrow. I got one on SQ but decided to trade it for the aisle seat (My kids were sitting alone on the row behind in the middle row so I could keep an eye on him). You get somewhat more leg room but you are very close to the wall which means that it can get really cold during the flight.
