For me the 767 is the nonstop option and if I want to go through YVR or YYZ to take a 744 it means Westjet or AC to get to YVR/YYZ and adding a connection. There are lots of places for that to go wrong!
That is one of the reasons I've kind of gone back to AC now that their J product is comparable to BA's(flew for years on AC with the old worn out lounge chair J seats and duct taped 767's). From YYZ it's just so much easier to fly AC direct to so many European destinations without going through LHR(although I think T5 and the BA lounges are great). I'd also rather transfer to smaller cities through MUC or ZRH on LH even if it means backtracking sometimes.
