It's a misapplication of the *G policy, which one extra bag beyond the normal allowance. Since most *A gave 3, folks assumed as much.
So *G hasn't changed, the underlying airline policy has.

It stinks, but I would have clearly made up for the lost $ by asking compensation from UA more rationally. He blames UA for LH's policy,
which he/she didn't know differed. I've made more money off a 2-hour delayed bag - the OP's flight was cancelled - and perhaps rebooked
in Y? The RDMs alone make up for it.
