With regards the airport - in Athens, there was a special accreditation/immigration centre set up so that incoming person who needed accreditation (media, International Governing Bodies members, others) were diverted away from the standard immigration process and taken there, so they got entry clearance and accreditation in one fell swoop. Worked well.
