I spent five years in Interior Alaska and loved it, and would move back if I could. Great place to live. The summers are the best you'll ever find in Alaska, and the winters are beautiful, with none of the freeze-thaw-freeze yoyo's that other winter cities (ahem, Anchorage) get. 40 below admittedly gets old after a few days, but fortunately it is the exception and not the rule.
I still live in the Interior and have for the past 23 years. I echo your well penned sentiments 100%! I'd like to add to them this poem by my favorite Chinese poet, Li Bai, which describes my feeling for life up here north of the Alaska Range most exquisitely:
