BTW, have you ever heard about a change in procedure that allows LGAs to be in a gallon-size bag (as long as the contents could still fit in a re-sealable quart-size baggie, are not prohibited items and all are <3.4 ounces? I can't find anything about this relaxing of the rules on the website. I can't see the security risk involved, but I watched a young couple surrender their LGA's last spring in LAS. Screener was quite polite and said the problem wasn't the contents or the amounts, it was the baggie size that was the problem.
This is one of those things that varies from airport to airport and even checkpoint to checkpoint (another problem with the operation- inconsistency) some of the more laid back people are going to let LGA's slide as long as they are under the size limits and theres not an excessive quantity. The sticklers however are going to take them away for being in anything other than a 1 quart ziploc bag. Sadly, ive seen people put like 3 small 2oz lotions in the screening tray, not in any bag, and have them taken away just because they werent in a ziploc bag. To me it makes no sense at all, and the people that are that gung-ho need to realize that sometimes the spirit of the law goes ALOT farther in getting people's cooperation than the letter of the law.
I think the official line is they need to be in a clear-plastic bag/case that is placed in the screening tray, and while the bag/case need not be a 1-quart bag, the amount of items in the bag/case must fit inside a 1-quart bag.... ie you can have a gallon bag if theres only a few small bottles in it. That being said, even if thats the official line, one of the biggest problems is old, anal TSO's that have been on the job since TSA's inception and refuse to accept any change at all and will still brutally enforce the 1-quart bag rule.
