I think people may have slightly misunderstood the scenario.
The OP is already taking a train to Venice (from Salzburg) - at the end of an extended stay in Europe (there are more details in a different thread)
He is trying to decide whether to
- fly home (and I believe that's North America) from Venice, or
- take the train back to Munich and fly home from there
As the OP will already have done the scenic train journey on the way down there is no real need to do it a second time - unless he wants to take a different route and see different scenery. And flying home from Venice would give him an extra day in Italy.
If I was in the OP's shoes I would probably only do the train journey one way, and then fly home from Venice (i.e., book an open-jaw flight)
Ah, well that completely changes things. Yes, book an open-jaw ticket if possible. Though, I'm curious on what airline MUC is a hub for North America. I thought all transatlantic flights routed through Frankfurt? (I'm assuming that you're using Lufthansa)
