I guess I'm just a bit surprised by some of the answers in here. My wife knows me better than anyone else - even before we were married, when she planned a trip for us I was thrilled, even if she surprised me. I knew she would take into account my likes and dislikes and I trusted here to do such - just as I think the OP would. How wonderful it was to be able to go and enjoy her well thought out plans! Why is it that so many are against a nice surprise like this? I certainly wouldn't be put off by something like this - so what if I didn't pack the right clothes, or had a mindset I was going to be spending it with family or friends, rather than my better half. Switch gears! He is trying to do something romantic, I say have at it! And what a terrible way to use the word "ruse" - he isn't calculating a kidnapping!
