Had an A320 WLG->AKL a couple of weeks ago. Full cell service available most of the flight. Prices are horrendous, though, so sent one txt for the fun of it, and left it at that.
I suspect that is all 99% of people do. I've yet to hear anyone making a phone call on one of the domestic A320s, so I wonder if it makes Air NZ any money having the equipment installed?
