Gaming the 'Executive Aisle' selection in Kauai

I have an upcoming 8 day family trip to Kauai and I've got 2 car reservations for the 10 of us. One is at Budget for a full size because they have the best rate, and my other is at National for a midsize at about $100 more than the Budget full size. My strategy is that we'd really like an SUV or a minivan, but the rates for those at every agency are over $500, and I'm figuring that I'll have a good shot at getting to choose one of these in the Executive Aisle for my midsize rate.

So my question is this: We are arriving on a Saturday evening and leaving the next Sunday. I'm guessing that Saturday is a huge arrival day in Kauai and probably Sunday is a big departure day. So would it be a good idea to book an additional car at Budget for one night and change my National reservation to pick up Sunday so that I could just drive back to the airport the day after we arrive and get a much better choice of vehicles in the Executive Aisle? This sounds like a lot of trouble, but if it would offer a much better chance of getting an SUV or van it would be worth my time.

Any thoughts on this from frequent Kauai renters?
