I still wonder how the trade will work.
- Is the thing being acquired a US Airways Preferred Trial? That is, instant Silver (Gold? Plat?) status for the OP and then the ability to retain the status for a full year if you fly 7500, 1500, 20000, etc. miles in 90 days? US Airways will sell the Silver one directly for $215, Gold for $430. It's actually a good way to snag a *A status quickly if you can do it.
- Is the Marriott points trade being done as the OP booking a hotel room in the name of the trading partner? If so, you're talking about the 20,000 point ballpark for a Silver Trial...or one Category 4 night. Thus leading me to my next question...do you have a Category 4 certificate from the Megabonus you could use?
The only challenge is that since it can be difficult to find a Category 4 hotel in North America or Europe that's really worth $215/nt., the trading partner might want a Cat 5 or more. That's why it kind of gets hard to deal MR points at low levels...harder than, say, Starpoints where there are plenty of small award options that still have a value-per-point that is pretty high.
