technically, AC agents have told me they will start processing upgrades during boarding time (dont ask me why)............. But in my experience, I usually go up to the counter just before boarding and ask if my upgrade is cleared (or what the chances are).............. if its slim......forget it, i want my Y seat and overhead bin space during priority boarding.
Since AC is based on aerolotto vagueness, I thought they aren't supposed to tell you what your chances are. After all, what fun is it if the bitter gate agents can't spite you?
