Grand Hyatt NYC REVIEW - MASTER THREAD - 2012 onwards
Staying here for my first time after booking a couple of 3 night stays on a Travelzoo $149 rate. I was pretty worried after reading through here as a lot of the feedback seems quite negative. Well so far so good. I did find the check in a bit odd, there were a few of us there and nobody seemed quite sure where to go. We were all lining up at what turned out to be the concierge desk. But a quick shift and I got checked in very politely and quickly. Was offered turndown service (accepted), late checkout (declined) and plat amenity (took points as the food options sounded a little high-carb for January diets)
Anyway got upgraded to a "Grand Deluxe" on the 31st floor and have to say I am really impressed with the room. It is clearly one of the refurbished ones. Will post some pics once my Photo Stream catches up. Looks like they have taken their cues from Andaz for better or worse. The iPod/iPhone dock is the same Genoa system, the safe is the same, and the furnishings are similar modern style. They also have the same light switch system, which is not great, but the ones here either seem more responsive or I am getting better at using them. But anyway the room is big, really nicely decorated and comfortable. There is a huge wardrobe and the bathroom is large too (shower only but that is perfect for me)
I will try the new RC in the morning for my breakfast and plan to check out the gym too so will post more later but so far am really enjoying this stay. Am sure the $149 rate helps but for sure I would not be disappointed in what I have seen far at "regular" rates
One oddity when connecting to wireless was offered a "standard" or "premium" connection. I don't know how this is handled with HGP but with SPG a few properties have tried this and then the "premium" version does not get included in the free bene. SPG clamped down this, but I didn't want to take the chance so went with the "standard". A check on speedtest showed it around 1-1.5mb which is not great but fine for emails / flyertalk etc. But would be curious what HGP policy is and whether or not the "premium" service would be included in the free internet
