Competition with Air India? I thought that American Airlines was more successful than Air India on this route, I mean, Air India has a bad reputation and many people do not like their long haul cabin.
Well deserved or not, of those passengers who have flown AI and AA non-stop from the US to India, the AI non-stop flights from the US to India have been considered favorable over AA for quality of in-flight product/service.

Personally, I've been better off with the JFK-DEL non-stop flights on trips to India and would choose that over AA from ORD-DEL when a one connection scenario was part of the picture either way and it was for the same cabin.

FWIW, I've had every last one of my eVIPs clear on AA nonstop flights to/from DEL for the better part of the last twelve months.
