FWIW, I tried and got approved for 1 and denied for the other. Applications were made within about 10 minutes of each other online. The denial letter I received said I had too many requests for credit recently.

I got a mortgage in early 2011, and prior to that my last new credit card was about a year earlier. Also I had just 1 chase card (and 3 others) at the time of my application. No credit problems. I'm not complaining, just providing my experience and some background.

I didn't try to call the Chase reconsideration line.
