7000 CO miles aren't worthless. If you take a long enough viewpoint, there are cost effective ways to turn them into a worthwhile redemption. Combine with UA and there are periodically decent rental car promos, for example. And there are plenty of low-impact time wasters, such as e-miles and e-rewards.
Your points.com trade sounds like a fair value but there are plenty of other ways to make those miles valuable without paying.
