UK Platinum Charge Card alternatives

Hi,

I've been reading the forum for a while and picked up a lot of good stuff here. I've got a question that I hope the good people here can help me out with.

I've been a Amex card member since about 1999 but with the changes to the UK Platinum charge card travel insurance, I'm reviewing what the alternatives are. The main thing I keep the card for is the travel insurance (2 adults and 2 children), sometimes I rent cars for a few weeks at a time so the rental insurance top up is good value too.

I occasionally use the Priority Pass, hotel cards etc but could probably do without them. I'm not that loyal to any particular chain as we tend to shop around anyway.

I haven't actually charged anything to the card for years, but I kept the card because the other benefits were exactly what I needed, comprehensive and a fairly good deal. It's just that the recent change to the travel insurance is a deal breaker for me.

So I was looking at the RBS Black but it lacks the car hire cover. I'd also consider taking out a corporate card if there was one that could replace the Platinum. I don't mind paying a hefty annual fee if the card is right and the minimum salary requirements shouldn't be a problem. The main thing I want is peace of mind for myself on business and for the family on holidays.

Do any of the Flyertalkers here know of other Amex UK Platinum card alternatives that I should be considering? Or will I become an outcast and be reduced to shopping for an annual policy at the Supermarket?
