You can't go wrong with the Oberoi's, especially Agra, Jaipur and Udaipur. Worth noting that Oberoi sometimes has deals if you stay in various cities on the same trip in their properties. Otherwise, we booked Oberoi's via Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts a few years ago (obviously need an Amex Plat for this) and got some very nice upgrades. In Udaipur, the Lake Palace is the obvious alternative to the Oberoi.

Also worth noting that Oberoi has excellent drivers. Let them sort out your car transfers for you rather than taking the risk on an independent.

Delhi - we stayed at The Imperial, which whilst not entirely there service-wise has been through an astounding refurbishment to restore its art deco past and looks great. Also walkable to Connaught Circus, for what that's worth!
