Resort fees are an industry-wide issue. The issue is now if the hotel next door to you advertises lower rates because they charge a $25 resort fee, how do you compete with that, when the booking engines don't sort by total charges including all taxes and mandatory fees? Eventually when it gets completely out of control some PO-ed congressperson will create some sort of truth in hotel rates legislation and force the issue so the prices they advertise include all mandatory fees, which might help level the playing field.
And I think it's condescending when they try to explain it as adding value for "most of our customers who have requested this", which is obviously some BS that an industry consultant came up with and has been repeated and reused so often that the industry itself actually believes it.
Of course the issue for us, as frequent travelers who often use points or cash & points or free nights promotions is that the unbundling of those required fees adds extra cost for us.
