C1 visa...can one adjust status with a C1?
(Wow! It's been a while since i have posted anything on Flyertalk.)

Happy New Year, everyone! A Canadian friend of mine received C1 status upon entering the USA (no I-94 was issued)- I suspect he received this class of visa because he showed the customs officer his 'ongoing ticket.' He had planned to marry his long time US citizen girlfriend while he is now in the USA. However, I have cautioned him against this because it is my understanding he cannot adjust his status under C1 classification. And that he has to leave the country in at most 29 days (since he didn't receive a 'leave-by' date) .

I am not an immigration attorney. But in short, can he adjust his status thru marriage with a C1 entry?
