So if I booked a round-trip itinerary that is UK-US-UK (to take advantage of the current ex-UK sale) and I live in the US, does this mean I cannot MFU my flights? I did not log into my BAEC account when I booked the itinerary and used my AA FF#, entered my US address and used my US credit card to pay for the ticket. There is no CW upgrade inventory at the moment, but I was hoping for upgrade inventory to open up closer to the travel dates.
Unfortunately you are out of luck. Your ticket must be sold in the country of your BAEC account in order to MFU. Note that this usually, but not always, means the departure country. For example, I often book travel ex-UAE in order to take advantage of lower fares. My BAEC account is US based. If booking a straight revenue ticket ex-UAE, it will price in AED, and if I were to purchase it, I would not be able to MFU. However, if I were to purchase this same ticket over the phone with a US BAEC agent, or if I were to use use the Book and Upgrade feature on ba.com to book and upgrade even one segment on the itinerary, the ticket would price in USD and be issued in the US, making it MFUable with my points.
