No argument from me. I have a CCW and when not working I carry, and I know every single instant where my weapon is. “I forgot it was in there” should never be an acceptable excuse, but it is the single most common one we hear (90% or better in my estimate). In fact I can’t think of an excuse that I have heard or seen that should allow the individual to avoid the responsibility of their actions.
TSA does none of those things though. Cant arrest, cant prosecute, can’t even detain. We partner with LEO agencies for these types of things, and when we find one we are not allowed to even touch them, gotta wait on the LEO’s. It stays in the x-ray until they get there, and on a single lane checkpoint it causes a back up. Now that “forgetful” or “unthinking” individual is affecting many people and THEIR travel plans. I say prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law, but again I don’t get a say in it.
