I'm curious which 'non-US' carriers you fly, and how often. I have a blankie on my lap virtually every flight when in C or F, or when there are blankets in Economy, and failing a blanket have either my pashmina or coat in my lap.
There was time when AC didn't distribute coats in Executive class I believe, but on my recent flights with them in the past few weeks I did have my blanket.
I've had LH require (not request, require) all shades down during high winds or extreme turbulence, most often whilst flying the polar route.
