A four points I stay at 5-6 a year always places me on the SPG floor. On my last stay as Gold, I was not even placed on a SPG floor and obviously no upgrade.
Just came back from the Sheraton on the Falls in Niagara. Stayed there 4 times as Corporate Preferred in the past 2 years, and was always upgraded to a Deluxe Falls View room on the SPG floor. Now as Gold? Was only upgraded to a Falls View room not on the spg floor but on a lower floor with older rooms.
Conclusion: it seems that there is better chance to get upgrades as a Corporate Preferred vs. Gold.
Do others have a similar experience?
Our experience is just the opposite. We got more upgrades as Gold than as Corporate Preferred. (Still not great upgrades though) Some hotels, especially international ones, have no idea what Corporate Preferred is and that upgrades are supposed to be one of the benefits...(Also, remember that you get 50% more points for Gold, not for Corporate Preferred....)
