I've never seen this actually enforced. I'm sure if you brought in something the size of a filing cabinet, they'd balk. But, I doubt they'd notice a few inches over. Probably because weight is eazy to check now that there are scales everywhere, but most agents probably don't have a tape measure handy to check the size.
