I think that the key may have something to do with the London-Madrid portion of the journey. When booking the outbound leg (about 8 months away) I was unable to book any journey online that involved Iberia flying London-Madrid and connecting to the MAD - MVD leg. When phoning BAEC I was told that they could not see any Iberia availability between London and Madrid. I was able to book online for London City- Madrid - MVD when the first leg was on BA.

Looking at December flights I can only get to the booking page online when I can select a BA (rather than Iberia) flight from Madrid to London. These flights however appear only to be loaded around 345 days ahead whereas the Iberia flights are loaded 355 days ahead but are not bookable online or via telephone. It is frustrating when you can see the seats you want 'available' on the website but not actually bookable online or on the phone....
