I've had no problems with land sectors; in the trip which started this post, I ended up doing DUS-YYZ-land-YQB-ORD-STL; so there was a land-backtrack. This summer I did LHR-IAD-BOS-land*-SFO-YVR -- no backtrack here, but a long land sector. (* Actually BOS-SFO had to be done on UA-MP standard mileage on a separate ticket owing to no BMI availability.)
