They don't have to pull off your bags if you don't show up.
It happens all the time, when a bag makes the connection and the passenger does not and their bag is just going round and round at their destination airport waiting for them to get there.
No matter what you try, you will most certainly not be the first person trying it unless it's the agent's first day on the job. They will clearly know what you are doing.
