My mom went through LAX enroute to SYD and left the small bottles of unopened shampoo, conditioner and lotion in the bag and they didn't ask either, ofcourse she was in a wheelchair. Perhaps they asked the notebook to be taken out was because I was traveling with someone in a airline provided wheelchair.
