International Open Jaw Tips from ATL to Europe?

Hi Everyone,

First-time poster, long-time reader. This summer, my fiancé and I are planning our honeymoon flight to Europe to visit family. Our desired routing is ATL-FCO on Tuesday, June 18 (we have some flexibility) and returning from MUC on Tuesday, July 10 (again, some flexibility). After doing some preliminary searching on Delta.com, it appears that the open jaw segment is comparable to either ATL-FCO roundtrip and ATL-MUC roundtrip (~$1450).

Since this is a SkyMiles thread, I have read that Delta used to allow (maybe still does?) open jaw international routings with miles. So I wanted to consult you, the experts, if you have any suggestions on the best way to go about this flight. In the mean time, I'm holding out that prices will drop slightly (and monitoring the flight via a daily Kayak alert.

Any suggestions on a way to do this using SkyMiles (without breaking the mileage bank)? Any outside of the box suggestions?

Some background, we would have the miles to redeem this flight if it was considered a low tier reward. In addition, I'm a lowly FO while my future wife is a GM.

Any thoughts/suggestions are welcome. Hope everyone has a wonderful 2012. Happy Flying.

Thanks,
Dutch
