Just to add on, I recently checked a box of wine from SEA-CLT. The wine was packed in a box (with inserts) from the winery. At the airport, it simply counted as a checked bag, was labeled with plenty of "Fragile" stickers, and I was asked to sign a release. The wine arrived just fine in CLT.
