BKK-KTM TG

Route: BKK-KTM
Airline: Thai Airways flight 319
Departure: Dec 7th 10:30AM(ON Time)

By this time, I was already a bit tired from all the stops. As you can see my trip started back in Montreal on Dec 4th and now it was Dec 7th. However, the day had come where I would finally catch my final flight of this itinerary and fly into Kathmandu. No matter how I flew, this is the only star alliance flight into Nepal. I caught a cab from my hotel back to the airport which cost me 1/3 of what i paid the night before ^. Since I was only doing carry on and boarding pass was issued back in HKG, i proceeded directly through immigration and to the lounge. In BKK there's a special through lane for Biz class pax that takes you directly through immigration and to the lounge. I thought this was brilliant in terms of efficiency.

The Thai Lounge in BKK was quite nice. I grabbed some breakfast there since I had not eaten and made a few phone calls home on skype. Around 9:45 i made my way to the gate. I found that outside the airside area not so nice compared to other major Asian airports. Found the gate and boarding was called shortly. Again we had to be bussed quite far to our aircraft. This flight was interesting as it consisted of what seemed mostly of tourists who were ready to do some trekking. Many passengers were wearing hiking boots and carrying hiking gear.

Business class on this flight only had about 10 people. Very few. There was Japanese couple, some guy going hiking on his own, a photographer, and some others.

Lunch was serviced shortly after takeoff. I noticed on takeoff the flooding that had devastated Thailand was still around.

I wished that I had such good food on every flight! But i knew this would shortly end.

I was watching a movie, but never finished as my AVOD suddenly stopped working. Decided to take a nap. When I woke up we were descending to Kathmandu. The view was stunning. Due to heavy air traffic we had to circle nepal for 15 minutes before landing.

The Kathmandu airport is definitely one of the worst airports I have visited. I'm sure there are worse out there, but this one tops my personal list.

Interesting/Funny things about Kathmandu Airport.
1)There are no jetbridges at this airport. We have to be bussed literally 15 feet to the terminal. I board the bus thinking that it's going to be a few minutes to the terminal, but the driver barely accelerates and breaks. Then everyone flows out of the bus. A bit comical. I could have walked there faster.

2) I forgot to get a passport photo ready for my visa, so I had to exchange some money to pay the guy 5USD equivalent for the worst/scariest picture of myself I have ever seen. I went to the ATM inside the immigration hall, but the gentleman at the Currency Bureau right in front of the ATM failed to tell me it was out of order until i waited and waited and waited some more for money to dispense out.

3) They accept all major currencies for the visa (USD, EUR, AUD, CAD ect)except for their own(Nepalese Rupees). Guess it makes sense since it's a developing nation.

4) Upon exiting customs, there were so many people crowding the door that they just waived everyone through without taking my customs declaration form.

Well after all that happened I was able to meetup with the guy sent from my hostel to come pick me up and off I went to explore Kathmandu and the surroundings.
