I think the idea has merit in theory. Looking quickly at an example on the calculator, I can see: [Note: Edited, I got my one way vs return mixed up]
LHR-NRT 60000 avios (C)
LHR-HEL 7500 avios (Y)
HEL-NRT 50000 avios (C)
Saving 2500 miles and not paying UK C taxes (just reward flight saver costs for that let), if you can hang on for 2.5 hours in Y before the long flight.
However, I can't seem to work out how to make the BA website actually make a booking from HEL-NRT. When I choose the travelling from airport to be Helsinki, it only gives me options to fly back to UK cities. Any clues on how one would actually make this happen? This is something I would *definitely* be interested in!
