The Topas is carry-on size, and my wife and I have never had problems with ours. I do recall that on one very full Lufthansa flight, I was given a choice of my attache case ( with my workpapers, camera, and laptop ) or the Topas. I chose the attache, and to Lufthansa's credit the Topas arrived intact without dents, dings, or scuffs upon arrival.

Note that the Topas and Silver I are 1994 models (16 years old and going strong ), with only a recessed, non-TSA combination lock, and a key lock which was never used.

I used to clean the cases after each flight as I fly quite a bit, rolling it through rain and slush, but I ordered two of the clear plastic covers on EBAY for the Topas model, and both do exactly what the vendor states. Easy on and off after you master it, ( we do get compliments, and more importantly don't hold up the line ) and the mil thickness of the covers provides an extra layer of protection.

Can you send me a link for the ebay plastic luggage protectors you mentioned in your post? I cannot find anything on this kind of product in a search. I have 4 pieces of Rimowa that only have about 10K miles on them and it would be nice to keep them protected. Thanks in advance! [email protected]
