'A few minutes' indicates the connecting flight will arrive before the departing flight normally closes doors. IME, a ground agent (for the arriving flight) might have better luck calling zone control and requesting the hold. I recall in one instance a large portion of my connecting flight was continuing on one international flight and the captain called in a request while in the air and they did hold the flight for us. IME, people at the airport and on the airplane seem to have better results in such circumstances. Good luck.
